Can? Or will? DC was the first quarter to have combined P & D under 200m mintage in the history of clad quarters, if I'm not mistaken, with a combined mintage of 172m. Puerto Rico was even lower than that -- at 139m. Now, consider, there are a lot of people in this country that live in DC and live (or who's descent comes from) Puerto Rico. But Guam? Who's from Guam? Given the declining interest in this series, less interest in Guam generally, the slow-down of all 2009 minted coins . . . I'm guessing that Guam, and the rest of the 2009 territory quarters, will have pretty darn small mintage. Thoughts anyone?
So much we have to buy, are we all becoming addicted to the mint? We have to buy, the sad part is I feel I have to buy these also, I started them and will finish them This is it for the quarters for me. No regrets, just ending it here after this year for the quarters. Well, I'm sure eventually I'll end up with a set of silver state quarters, I would really like to have a set of those. Well, maybe a clad proof set also, then I'll quit the quarters, really I will.
The order of release is: late May - Guam late July - American Samoa late Sept - The United States Virgin Islands late Nov - The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands
me too. after this 2009 set. then buy 2010 first set of state park quarters. that's it. the second 10 year set is not going to go up. why 2010. because the proof set contained the new reverse of lincoln cent.
Uh huh . . . sure . . . so in 2015, you'll boast that you have a complete Washington Quarter collection, but you stopped in 2009???
Elaine, has your thoughts changed on the DC and Territorial Quarters? Do you think the silver proof, clad proof, and BU are still going to be overlooked?
latest mint report: 2009 (six pcs) quarters clad proof set - 414,474 2009 (six pcs) quarters silver proof set - 120,337
the clad proof set, silver proof set and the mint uncirculated set are good for investment. there will be no change regarding the quarters. most circulating issues are going to be lower on mintages. the dime and nickel even declared no more stock by the mint.
I think the proof sets will be high this year because of the copper Lincoln Cent, this will make these have a much higher mintage.
Why are you hating on Guam? Guam is home to the 3rd Division Marines and was a strategic strong hold in the Pacific theatre during WWII. It made possible the taking of Iwo Jima and Okinawa and in fact the Enola Gay (that dropped the first atomic bomb) launched from Guam. It's home to an Air Force and Marine base. I can understand why an island in the South Pacific might seem insignificant to some but to the tens of thousands that gave their lives in the defense of this nation, Guam has a special place in their hearts and the struggle for freedom.
Hating? Who said anything about hating? Or insignificant? I certainly don't hate Guam -- not in the least! And I do appreciate it's significance. I was just pointing out that while millions in this country can claim descent from someone Puerto Rico -- the direct connection to Guam exists in a whole lot fewer US citizens. That's just an objective observation. That's fact #1. Fact #2 is that DC mintage was the lowest ever, until Puerto Rico came by and was even lower than that. All I was saying is that between #1 and #2, I suspect that the mintage for Guam will be even less. That's got nothing to do with hate. In fact, the rarer and/or lower the mintage it is, the better it is for collectors who can get their hands on some, right? On May 26 (the date of release), I'm loving Guam!
