Just got off the phone w/ a numismaticist that told me his prediction of how the 2008 W series (AGB, AGE, APE, SAE) will go down as soon as "the next big thing comes down on the modern coin scene". I was originally calling to see if he had any fractional buffalo's. He said "those coins are very scarce". I asked him if he thinks they are going up since they are getting more and more scarce and he replied with a simple no, that He said he's been in the coin business for fifty years and he's "seen this kinda thing many times before"..."the 2008 W series is being heavily promoted right now and prices are just outragous!" When the next thing comes along the price should come down significantly ...and then he mentnioned seeing it before...something about a 1964 kennedy half series and some old pennies. I have my doubts. The 2008 w series do cointain most of the key series date coins and the mint will probably never offer these burnished coins again. I know the numismatic guys HATE these coins because it takes money out of their pocket since people are buying these coins right now and not the old numismatic coins. Take the poll and tell me where you think these coins are going and why.
The increase will be slow on these 2008-W coins. The 2006-W unc cost as much as the proof already so that will remain the same at the minimum. Most ppl I know collect pre-64 coins so the mint has to be innovative in the way they present new coinage so that there will be a constant interest. Just like the 1996-W dime that was issued. There was only 50 thousand or so of those minted so yes the US mint knows exactly what they're doing to drive prices upward and they will continue to come up with different ideas for us collectors to spend our money. It's the American way, right? anything for the almighty dollar. :thumb:
These coins have a lot going for them: bullion value, limited mintage, short series, great design, etc. I believe (and hope) that they will steadily increase over the years. TC
To be honest, the reason why I invest in these coins is to protect myself against a severe gold and silver correction.
This isn't proof of these coins going up up up like you want them to. This one won't sell in this auction for this amount. It's not meant to sell at that price, it's just to show off. And did you read his reasoning for the price he gave the coin in the Buyer's questions section below? ebay auction link
I didn't even read it. I just figured it was somebody making a joke, or trying to get prices up. I also saw where somebody is selling 100 lots of one ouncers for $159,000.00 Now that's a bunch of gold!!!
Definately. He also sounds like a panzy in his response to the posted question. Don't you agree?? Now could somebody please explain to me the difference between SP and Burnished? That whole rainbow thing the seller talked about in the item desription sounded ridiculous!
i took a crack at it... like others have said. it is purely a guess. I watch the price of the sets, only the O.G.P & C.O.A. you couldn't tell me they would go beyond $4500 but alas, both sets did. At that point I've just watch the steady increase. At some point I believe they will settle but at what point is anyone’s guess. I just hope they continue to rise!
that proof set on ebay for the proof buffs selling for 17 grand blew me away.:goofer: why is that set selling for that much and there are bin's for 10,000...who really cares if its pcgs or ngc? both are good grading companies. Anybody here have a set of the burnished or proof here?
The only difference between the two is the mint mark. The finish is exactly the same. At least when it comes to the SAEs and GAEs that you were speaking of.
What about the mint mark? what is the specific difference. What about AGB? Also curious as to if the mintage of these coins can be considered comparable to the mintages of the first spouce coins..or it would that be more of a case of comparing apples and oranges? Are the first spouces considered to be a commemorative coin?
When you get to the TPGs the price tends to be outrageous! At times I :desk: for not sending mine in for FS/ER designation but I settle down and at the realized price for the OGP/COA!

Here's a memorable quote/scene: Replying (at 1:25 minute marker) to Lt. Steven Hauk's Army jargon refering to a press conference to be given by former Vice-President Nixon: "Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P." -Adrian Cronauer as played by the actor Robin Williams in the 1987 film Good Morning Vietnam
