I am confused (as usual). Is the 2008 reverse suppose to have a spur on the U in United? Are there some 2008 without the spur?
2008 reverse got the spur 2007 have smooth u without the spur about 160000 of the 2008 SAE got the 2008 reverse about 47000 of the 2008 SAE got the 2007 reverse
Our favorite Robert Chambers was selling a "reverse of 2007, MS70 early releases" for $599.99 on shopNBC last night.
I posted here 2 weeks ago, then decided to order a couple of 2008-W because I didn't yet have either variety, and the Mint store in Philadelphia had none in stock back then. Got my order today and I'm a bit flabbergasted 'cause both of them are the 2007 reverse! I'd assumed the Mint had long ago sold out the rarer variety.
hooray i am expecting my order in the next day or so hopefully it will come out of the same bin. i dont want to be ordering every 2 weeks and have 26 2008 reverses
I watched some Ebay auctions close today. I guess I do not have anything else better to do. Anyhow the NGC 70 are going for about $450 now. The raw coins seem to be pushing the $250 mark. Strange thing there are a few well respected on line coin dealers who are selling the 69 and 70's for less than you can get them off of Ebay. I noticed Modern coin market raised the price of their NGC 70's Early release from $399 to $449 today. As a great philosopher once said, either there is a lot of idiots or a lot of smart people buying these coins. Only time will tell. Disclaimer... I do not know anything.
I also ordered one more of the 2008W on April 26. Figured, what the heck. I just received the coin yesterday and it has the 2007W reverse, so they are still out there! Regardless of Mr. Chambers saying the Mint had recalled all the ones that haven't been shipped yet.
Just my luck :headbang: . The SAEs I got from the mint were all the 2008 reverse. Anyone care to trade a few of the 07 reverse SAEs for my wifes new $900 dog? Haha...she'd kill me!!
I was reading about "first strike" and "early release" coins on the mint web site, and the one thing I did learn is that the mint runs about 50% of the coins prior to release, and the rest through out the release period. The point of the article was that they don't track what gets minted when. This leads me to believe that the mint pulled the dies and maybe not the coins. If the over all release is more in line with previous years or around 400,000 coins, the 2007 reverse will be about a 10% variant for the year.
I promise this.... I ordered 5 more ASE on April 29th - 3 days after Booner did (and he got a 2007 rev) All I want is two - one for my book and the other in the OGP. I will trade or sell any others that are 2007 rev. Hows that for a deal! If Booner just got his in yesterday, then mine should be in any day now. The charge is already pending on my bank account so that is always a good sign that they have been sent out. I will keep you all posted.
I wanted mine in the OGP because I like the idea of the coin being packaged by the mint and having something be wrong with it. It's hard to explain but I get what I mean.
keep me in mind if you have the double for the 2007 reverse i ordered only one coin so letss ee how it goes
I received my 12 troy ounce order a week ago (all 08 reverses). Looks like they had already been searched NONE of them were in the cardboard holder any where near straight up. Most were rotated from 10 to 45 degrees in the cardboard holders and several were tilted and not flush in those holders. All of my previous 07 boxed burnished eagles look nearly vertical in the holders and were flush in the cardboard holders making them very difficult to remove.
I had to laugh very hard last night. Was flipping thru the channels and found on one of the shopping channels where they were selling the 2008 W ASE 2 reverse error coins for almost $500. Just about fell out of my chair seeing that at first and then just started laughing when I heard the way they were describing it.
