I have to applaud the effort, even though the end result is not my favorite coin. But I am surprised how well the silhouette shows up. I&#039;m looking at the proof right now, and it seems like the rider&#039;s surface is not totally flat, but a little rounded, giving a nice silhouette look at I turn the coin in the light.</p><p><br /></p><p>Regarding the Illinois coin: This coin is very busy, cluttered, with a young Lincoln crowded into the IL outline, yet it&#039;s not a bad coin in total effect. A bit of a surprise. At least they used the state outline creatively, with Lincoln using it as a doorway, of sorts.</p><p><br /></p><p>The only state quarter that I don&#039;t like in Louisiana. An outline of the country showing the Louisiana purchase is a bit pedestrian, especially with a pelican and trumpet thrown in for good measure. Doesn&#039;t show up well on a small coin. Reminds me of the reverse of the Washington-Carver commemorative with a reverse showing the outline of the country. Not great art. Perhaps a pelican theme alone would have been better.... or Mardis Gras.</p><p><br /></p><p>Anyway, here&#039;s hoping good things for the Parks quarters.
