mintage for 2008 statehood quarter is 672,438. and included inside the clad proof set. the total is 2,078,112. it is considered the lowest on both numbers indicated.
i am planning to buy 100 set of 2009 clad quarter proof set without box and c.o.a. is that a good idea?.
There are going to be many of these out there in the future. Folks are pulling the Lincoln sets out of the full proof sets in great numbers, leaving these. I can't see them going up in price for a long time to come.
my favorite quarters My Top 5 artistic choices: Nevada, Connecticut, Delaware, Texas, Puerto Rico. I'm glad to see so many of the quarters that looked beautiful. I really hope that the Parks quarters can continue the high artistic quality. It'd be too easy to just put a bunch of landscapes on the coins without much thought, so I hope they are diligent about the designs. Other opinions: Regarding the Wyoming quarter, I think it's a very interesting experiment. I have to applaud the effort, even though the end result is not my favorite coin. But I am surprised how well the silhouette shows up. I'm looking at the proof right now, and it seems like the rider's surface is not totally flat, but a little rounded, giving a nice silhouette look at I turn the coin in the light. Regarding the Illinois coin: This coin is very busy, cluttered, with a young Lincoln crowded into the IL outline, yet it's not a bad coin in total effect. A bit of a surprise. At least they used the state outline creatively, with Lincoln using it as a doorway, of sorts. The only state quarter that I don't like in Louisiana. An outline of the country showing the Louisiana purchase is a bit pedestrian, especially with a pelican and trumpet thrown in for good measure. Doesn't show up well on a small coin. Reminds me of the reverse of the Washington-Carver commemorative with a reverse showing the outline of the country. Not great art. Perhaps a pelican theme alone would have been better.... or Mardis Gras. Anyway, here's hoping good things for the Parks quarters. I hope they have the guts to put Teddy Roosevelt on the obverse for the series.....
I don't like the LA coin either. For the same reasons I don't like the Minnesota design. Too generic, and the outline of the state seems like it just wasn't necessary. For that matter, any quarter with the state's outline on it reflects a lack of imagination IMO. That goes for the New York design (my home state) as well. There was an alternative NY design that showed Henry Hudson's "Half Moon" sailing up the Hudson River that was much nicer. As far as the Illinois quarter design, I would critique it more but I have exactly ONE specimen of that coin. It's far and away the rarest state quarter I have come across in circulation.
