Found this today. Just wondering if anyone had any thoughts. Pretty rough shape. Looking at the cent I cant see any copper even under a 10X lens. I am a rookie to all this but wanted to know if I am seeing this right. Do you think someone chemically removed it?

De-plated after it was in circulation

Sounds good, not an easy hobby. I have been through quite a few rolls, still haven't found a single thing. But I'll keep on looking.

Just remember if any 'good' error types were easily found
in circulation, they wouldn't be worth much.( or as much as
    they would be worth now)

This coin could have also been a victim of one of these type of experiments. After such experiment, placed back into circulation. The "new" surface then tarnished. Never the less, whatever it is that happened, did so after it left the mint.

    The plating was chemically removed.
