I received in change the other day a 2008 Alaska state quarter that has a completely smooth edge and the grizzly bear on the back is smooth as well. Just wondering what approximate value would be. Let me know if you need additional pictures. Thanks in advance.
I know the bear relief looks like it was messed but it is completely smooth. Scratches may be from rubbing against other coins. Edge is completely smooth as well. Doesn't look tampered with either.
The edges were messed with When the coin is struck, it expands into the collar slightly, which makes the reeding. A coin struck without the collar engaged is called a broadstuck error. Your coin is not broadstruck. Only quarter collars will fit into the press with quarter dies and all those are needed.
First, welcome to the neighborhood! It would help if you posted a better close-up of the reverse. Try this: Crop out all of the unnecessary background. Then resize the image. Finally, use the "Upload a File" button at the bottom of your post, select the new image and use the "Full Image" option.
I recently found a 2016 dime in a bank roll the is the same way but no face,, is this a common ment error??
The coin above is not an error its damage and if yours looks similar then most likely the same but uncertain without pictures.
