I am sure some of you own both, but if given a choice: Would you rather have the 2008w 1/4 ounce AGE or the 2008w 1/4 ounce AGB? Why? I am referring to the uncirculated burnished variety with the W mint mark, and not the bullion or proof. TC
TC: You might consider to attach a poll to this thread. 2008w AGB for me. Mintage is crazy low and looks to have a load of room to increase in value. I also own this coin, but in proof only.
The Buffalo. I like the the fact that they are pure gold. I recently got some 2010 Gold Maples and these were my first pure gold coins. Pure gold just looks beautiful.

that's mean those were the good stuffs. i bought a lot anything mintage under 10,000. except some that i like with high mintage. got few for 2009w AGB one ounce proof. and some that i don't like. such as UHR double eagle - zero. and zero for all bullion AGE series. you talking about 2009 one ounce gold at 1,493,000. silver is a different story.
Anyway... Here, we are only talking about: Would you rather have the 2008w 1/4 ounce AGE or the 2008w 1/4 ounce AGB? Why? What do you say?
i got both and sufficient. i am neutral and have no comment. i see both can continue to go up. possibly said $5,000.00 each. which design i like most. to tell you frankly. i don't like either one. i like the british britannia designs. for silver design. i like ASE.
Does AGB mean American Gold Buffalo? I ask because I did not realize that they might be available in 1/4 ounce. When I voted, I was under the impression that AGB meant a 1/4 American Gold Eagle with lots of frost on it. - Sorry for what seems like a dumb question. Any clarification would help.
AGB = American Gold Buffalo AGE = American Gold Eagle Fractional sizes of the AGB were only minted in 2008.
i told you before that i buy the ugliest coin. cause the mintage will be low. and you can make money on that. as for AGB. i bought them because i knew it will be low. the last few days, i saw some several thousand pieces on each denomination were bought by institutional investors. remember those coins look like nobody want them. to tell you frankly. i bought when the prices were even adjusted downward.
Further information: 2008w AGB total mintage = 9,949 (only 1/4 ounce AGB fractional) 2008w AGE total mintage = 8,883 (lowest mintage in the AGE series)
Hypothetically, say you won some door prize at a coin show and could pick between only those two modern gold coins. Which one would you select (even if you then sold it or traded it for pre-33 gold)? TC
Assuming both were in comparable states of preservation, I would tell them to pick one. I wouldn't care either way; to me they're just gold. If one were obviously better looking that the other I'd pick that one. It would most likely get a higher price at resale.
My vote goes for the Eagle. I think it will do better in the end as I believe there are more AGE collectors out there then Buffalo collectors just due to how long the series has been available, they would hate to have that hole in their collection. Plus by the time most people were getting interested in the Buffalos it was only cause the prices were skyrocketing... same sort of thing with the 2008W AGE... once word got out then everyone gets interested...
