platinum posted another record high today. it traded at $1,943.00. palladium also a record high at $448.00 per ounce.

i think gold and silver will follow it.

 

u s mint stop selling platinum again

u.s. mint stopped selling platinum products both proof, uncirculated and 10th anniversary set. except 1/10 ounce proof.

the bullion price of platinum hit record high @ 1,953.00 per ounce. even higher than the selling price of 10th anniversary set.

my guess is that if the price stable at this level. the mint will set the price for american eagle platinum and gold at $2,050.00 and $975.00 per ounce respectively. thus these prices will look like this more or less.

silver eagle not available

2007 w american eagle unc silver dollar is not available at the mint right now. i wonder how many pieces were sold. it should be well around 1,500,000 to 2,000,000 pieces. that will consider a lot as compared to 2006 mintage of 470,000.

the price of silver at today high is $18.91.

palladium just break the record high at $544.00 per ounce.

 

american buffalo

when the american buffalo fractional gold coins come out. it should be very expensive. i wonder this series can be successful. or maybe the mintage will be very low.

 

Will the mint be selling fractionals of the buffaloes this year? Proof & uncirculated? Would be nice to have the quarter oz. to match the original nickle.

 

I am looking forward to buying a 1/4 oz fractional for that exact reason

 

This is an interesting thread. I am new to coin collecting and did not think about them in this way for investing. I see the prices you have quoted for gold and was wondering if it made sense to purchase the gold uncirculated 4 coin set as there appears to be a savings over purchasing the coins separately?

IF (a big if) you are in the market for gold, yes.. it is cheaper to buy the set than the individual pieces.

it seems the gold is the slowest upward movement but more attention given by the general public. maybe other base metals move faster than palladium?.

2008 american eagle gold proof series should be come out shortly. may be march. the 2007 gold proof already pass one year. the 2007 series offered on feb.5,2007.
