Here is I believe an error. The "G" in GOD is covered by a square. If you look carefully you can see where the bottom of the G shows a little bit. Could it be a strike thru?
If I came across this in my change, I would have dismissed it for something someone did with a dental tool or dremel with the assistance of magnification. To me it looks like the G was intentionally ground off and they missed the very bottom part of it.
If it were a strike through why would the area affected not have aged as the rest of the piece? Looks like PMD. IMHO.
I was thinking the same thing too until I saw 2007 and a zincoln. Thus there was no zinc showing, so the plating wasn't disturbed/ ripped/ torn off. So something blocked the striking of the G and thus a strikethru. but as mentioned the color looks odd in this picture. So I was thinking it was tampered with and pushed down but why ? who knows. The closeup shows a bunch of parallel marks with the bottom half of the G pressed down?? and a mini "G" ... I'm starting to see things ... either way it's at least a strike thru depending upon the lighting. I wonder if I can recreate this ... just use the tip of a flat blade screwdriver and a jewelers hammer to tap it down .. makes you wonder eh ?
This is the other that I sent of another coin that was called a strike thru: to my newbie eyes the same coloring and melded edges, flowing kind of the same? View attachment 1075200 View attachment 1075202 View attachment 1075200 View attachment 1075202
