The John Adams Dollar in this mint set appears to have a strike through and a small rim cud. It is still in the package so it is difficult to photograph. The strike through is not a scratch, I checked it out on more magnification. The small rim cud is not from a hit either.

Can't quite make up my mind about the strike through. The rim is probably damage or a planchet defect as a cud is normally on the inner edge of the rim and extending into the field as the die deteriorates and starts to crack then break.
JMO. I am probably letting my inexperience show:(

Close your eyes and visualize my inexperience. I'm pretty much in the same boat - still learning. Thanks for the feedback.

I removed the coin from the US Mint Set package and made new photos. I am convinced that both defects are the result of strike through. They have similar profiles that look like the same type of foreign material caused both.

Looking more like a strike through. The change of direction where it meets the device would be where the metal moves to fill the incuse area of the die, IMO

    It's a struck thru, imo

The rim issue could also be a struck thru,
    but can't tell for sure.....

Nice strike through, maybe two on the same coin. If that rim isn’t a strike through it’s the start of a cud. Nice find.

    I’d say strike through
I have a Kennedy Proof set, still intact, with a likely rim burr strike through

Nice. Very few are found on proofs.
