2006 W Uncirc. Silver Eagles

No, I was wondering about "the first thirty days" statement. I haven't opened my boxes but I've had them much longer than thirty days.

I ordered 25 of the 2006 w ASE and have submitted five coins to NGC. Got 4 ms69 and one ms70. The coin currently trends around $90.00, and the coin shows trend at $149.00. I am holding on to mine!!!!!!!!!

I bought 4 of them at the Baltimore show for $80/ea.

 

think maybe donnyb is talking about tv coin shows. Old coins vault dude was peddling the NGC 69's for something like $239 and "get 'em while you can" . What a ....

Yeah, I'm wondering about mine. I bought 10 and note that ebay's up to $90 or so unslabbed. My local dealer has them for $95 but is only willing to pay $60.

What I'm really curious about is the mint selling them again this year. I've seen them on the Schedule for April.

I thought 2006W was a one shot deal?!?


Anyone know for sure what they're going to do?

Will be interesting to see what its worth in the future....'course it will never hold a candle to the 1995 W proof....

 

My understanding is that they will continue to make them. How long will be anyone's guess. If this program is successful , then it will probably go on for ever. Seems I read somewhere that they will be like $21.95 this year and in a clam shell thing. I would expect the mintages for the burnished dies to be much greater from now on than it was for the 2006.

 

There is a big difference in this coin and the normal 2006 ASEs... these W coins have been minted for collectors only... the proofs are also minted for collectors only, look at their prices... The thing about the 470,000 coins minted last year is that most are in the hands of hoarders/spectulators...
I think the important thing is to llok out for the 2007 Ws... if the 2007 mintage is in the same region of about 500K... the 2006s should drop to normal prices again...

 

1995 W?

How does the 1995 W Proof compare to the 2006 Reverse Proof in terms of mintage and do you think the current prices for the reverse proof are undervalued?

ok, so if the 1995 W had 30,000 minted and assuming they are currently going for around $5,000 a piece. At a little less than 10 times the amount the reverse proof mintage of 250,000....shouldn't the reverse proof at a grade of no less than PF69 be selling for approximately $500 dollars a piece?

 

Supply and demand generally isn't linear. For example, a set collector tries to collect one of every year/mintmark/variety. If we pretend for a moment that the only people who collect Eagles are people seeking a complete set, and this number of people is greater than the 1995W mintage, but less than the mintage of the reverse proof, set collectors will drive the 1995W price way up, but won't have such a big effect on the reverse proof price since the supply is larger than the number of people who desire one. Of course, it's more complicated in reality, mainly because there is a lot demand for the reverse proof from all kinds of collectors, but that's the gist of it.

 

from what I have read, there are a lot more collectors now than there were in the mid to late 90's. The 1995w is priced beyond what most collectors would care or can pay for them now. The 2006 reverse proof in a raw and 69 grade , can be considered relatively inexpensive coin. I do not know what resistance levels coins reach before the major of collectors feel that it is to expensive, but would think the reverse proof may have a ways to go.

While they did mint 250k of these, I am curious how many collector/investors/hoarders purchased multiple sets of these coins and for now they are completely off the market. Just my thoughts.

 

I know I bought 5 and kept 2 for my self. The other 3 I sold quickly. The proceeds paid for the 2 I kept with some to spare.

 

They said the same thing about 1950-D nickels, and you see where that got those who invested in those coins. There are far, far better investment/speculation opportunities available than US commemoriatives and bullion coins....Mike

 

I have a question pertaining to the 2006 W, what is the difference between the innagural 2006 W and the standard 2006 W? I am trying to figure this out on a purchase. I collect NGC graded coins and can see no difference in the holders or discription on them.

 

I think the 2006 fractional gold uncirculated eagles offered by the mint ( with the W-mint mark) will do well for two reasons.
1)they were only offered in the holiday catalog.
2)they sold out

I posted 2 auctions from Ebay. The first one is a regular 2006 and the second is the 2006 W.
The difference is the inaugural 2006 W was sold directly from the Mint (not by dealers which the regular 2006 and before eagles. Also, the 2006 W coin has the burnished die finish and will have the W Mint mark on the reverse. The regular issue is minted at West Point also but does not have the W Mint Mark on the reverse.

Only difference on the NGC holder will be the regular will just have 2006 Eagle and the new W Mint will have 2006 W Eagle. I hope this helps.

so if I get this right, if the holder does have 2006 W on it, it is the innagural.

 

That is correct. That is for the MS coin not the Proof. So make sure if you want the inaugural 2006 that is has 2006 W Eagle MS69 or MS70. The proof coin will have a W on it also like this auction.
