<p>[QUOTE=&quot;CRH in MN, post: 180588, member: 7331&quot;]I started to look for a few of the varieties like double dies for a few coins a couple of months ago.&nbsp; I even looked in detail at every coin for a penny box or two.&nbsp; Basically I tried to find the different varieties listed on coppercoins.com.&nbsp; Either my eyes are not trained well enough or my magnification is not powerful enough, but I didn&#039;t have much success.&nbsp; On top of that I found that it just took way too long and was too much strain on my eyes.&nbsp; So I am back to mostly just looking for the varieties listed in the Red Book which ends up being around 100 pennies per box.</p><p><br /></p><p>The only true successful double die I have found was the 1974-D kennedy.&nbsp; Other than that just some mechanical doubling and such that isn&#039;t worth much, the couple of Wide AM pennies listed above.</p><p><br /></p><p>Regarding the amount of time, I don&#039;t sleep much as it is (maybe 4 to 6 hours a night), and I have always been that way.&nbsp; So I actually do a lot of the searching while listening to/watching tv shows/sporting events that have been tivo&#039;d after my kids go to bed.&nbsp; </p><p><br /></p><p>Either that or I am doing it with my kids.&nbsp; My son, who just turned 8, already has filled his penny books back to 1941 (I bought him the three 1943&#039;s) and has almost finished his jefferson nickel books (only has 3 left: 1938-D, 1938-S, and 1950-D).&nbsp; All were found while searching in 2006 as I bought him the books in January of 2006.&nbsp; My daughter likes to help out as well, but she is only 5 and usually just likes to pour the coins between the cups of play tea set.&nbsp; Though she does know enough to pick out the canadian pennies and wheat pennies (at least if she sees the reverse).&nbsp; Once she learns her numbers just a little bit better, I am going to let her start filling a book as well whenever she finds the coins while helping me.</p><p><br /></p><p>Also, it only takes slightly over an hour for me to go through a box of pennies or nickels including looking for the common varieties, or about 1 show.&nbsp; The dimes and quarters I actually usually don&#039;t even bring home.&nbsp; The bank I go to most frequently has their rolls in clear plastic so I just ask the teller to look at whatever rolls of dimes and quarters they have when I am at the bank.&nbsp; Usually they will let me look, though I have met a few tellers who wouldn&#039;t.&nbsp; And I only buy the rolls that have the possibility of something older (that is also why my records aren&#039;t as accurate for dimes and quarters).&nbsp; Takes maybe 1 minute to scan 50 rolls of dmies or quarters.&nbsp; Half dollars are similar, but I didn&#039;t start getting them often until near the end of the year just due to the amount of money needed to get any volume, though I plan on getting them much more frequently in 2007.[/QUOTE]</p><p><br /></p>
