I'm thinking about picking up a 2006 ASE set just so I have one. I see APMEX has em for $299 and the Bay ranges from $200 up. What is a good price and do you think this set is one that should appreciate more than the normal years? That price is "ballpark" for now. Couple o' years ago they were going for $400. Not really an investment thing but more of a collector thing......
Actually there is 1 bid for $500 on it, thats why I asked what the deal was. Thanks for the info about the set. I think I will try to get 1 because I was too cheap when they first came out and I really do like them.
Old fellow, they were $100 when they first came out. If one was to be cheap, then it would have been cheap back then.....
Oh dread... nasty, nasty coin vault is still selling the PCGS graded ones for $449.95 I coulda sworn when I watched those hucksters first pushing them in 2006 that if you didn't buy it right then and there for $XXX.xx on flex-pay that you'd never get a set. :goofer:
Not too sure what you mean, but I was making fun of myself for being a cheapskate when they first came out and not buying it back then. Now that I really want a set, I will have to pay 2 or 3 times more than I would've back when I was being too cheap. An expensive lesson, but a lesson learned and I will not repeat it.
That is a great set to have in a collection. The Apmex price is decent but be sure to factor in shipping/handling if you pay by credit card. TC
I think silver was at around 11 bucks when they came out. I thought this is nuts paying $100 for 3 ounces of silver bullion? My friend talked me into it and told me to give money to everyone I know to order me more sets. This I didn't do. Today I wished I saved a set because if you remember back then it was a big deal to keep them in their unopened mint box so if the buyer wanted he could send them in to be graded. Never even looked at them. Oh well.
I don't like the fact you can't actually see the coins. I mean, yes, they are pictured, but come on. You expect me to guess what condition they are in?
I too thought that $100 was too much money for that set, but my gut told me to get one anyway. I'm glad I listened to my gut!
I still have four of those sets in the original unopened mint box. One of my fears is one day I will try to get these sets certified and find out the only thing in the box was someones dirty socks and a brick.
...add to the list of fears the effects of having left otherwise perfect coins sight unseen, sent to certify might be a waste of money for any number of conditional reasons, like hits and flaws you cannot see but if you had wouldn't have sent in for certification only to be rejected or graded too low for your likes. Add to that the possible effects of having left you otherwise perfect coins entombed in acidic paper board containers that may well leach out acids or fumed impurities into the atmosphere within the box leading to improper storing damage, an unsightly type of tone, spots, damaged OGP or have attracted insects to the cardboard container putting them in proximity to your coin, said cardboard loving insect croaks inside the box and becomes an added impurity... Anything can or could have already happened, but you can never know leaving them in there. Besides no one is enjoying them to this day wrapped up like that. The least expense lost would be having them graded and safe from all those other long term potentially damaging possible scenarios and then you could be looking at them instead of thinking about socks and bricks deceiving you.
If you followed my previous post and considered looking at MCM, you will see those prices for the three coins still isn't far off of $100/coin in this three coin set, whether that be in OGP or NGC certified. $319/$329 respectively.
