Well, of course when I first got them I just had to see I got the right coins, so I opened the package. I know I shouldn't have to get the "uncirculated set" designation on the slab, but I didn't care, gold is gold. Anyways here are a couple of pictures( I can never get the lighting right):

Rickie, thank you. Never did I ever think I would own an MS70 gold anything, let alone a $50 gold eagle. It is sitting right next to me and I can't stop looking at it, LOL. It will be off to the safe deposit box on Friday.

I think that was mainly for Silver coins----I'm not sure about gold.
This brings up something I hadn't thougth about before. Blank Planchets for ASE are washed by the mint and therefor after being struck may, down the road, show spots commmonly called milk spots---while I have seen many ASE with the above said spots I don't recall ever seeing a AGE or APE with the same spots.
    Could this be because:
A: the ASE planchets are the only ones to be washed
B: Gold and Platinum may not react the same way silver does

Without research on the topic I can't say for sure---maybe Rickie or ND can help us out here for sure, but this is something that just hit me.

PCGS currently will not certify a Ms 70 in a silver. they do give a 70 for proof silver. Unless they have changed

Doug is correct! On the nose, on the spot!!

Gold can tone out some and be a nice golden orange..but is inert to known corrosives.

So they are washed in the same way the silver planchet are??

I just picked up a PCGS MS69 Eagle with a huge spot covering 25% of the flat area of coin.
My question is how do you get this off? When did this get there - after grading?
    Cheers All

hahaha. it seems even with all the speculators lined up the set wont sell out. Doesn't look bright for the 2007 edition.

Based on your description this doesn't sound like the milk spots that are being discussed. I'd guess that the coin got something on it, it was dipped to remove it and sent in for grading. Then after grading the spot returned.

However, it should be noted that ASEs are graded as MS69 all the time with milk spots already on them when they are graded.

I have in my possession a coin that is a Proof NGC PF70 2006 ASE coin with what appears to be a milk spot! Is it common to get a milk spot on a such a new coin within 1 year?
Does NGC have any guarantee where I could return such a coin? I dont see how a spotted coin could get a 70 grade.

4 pc gold set sold out

4 pc w unc gold set is sold out. leaving one ounce gold coin available at this time.

final mintages might be as follows:

    $5.00 gold - 21,000
    $10.00 gold - 14,798
    $25.00 gold - 13,856

so far all the (w) unc gold and silver were the lowest mintages against all other unc and proof combined.

Sometimes the spots are on the coins when they come out of the mint tube, sometimes the spots show up a month later, sometimes more than that. But typically, no, if a coin has the spots on it when graded, it will not get a 70 grade. They can get a 69 grade though. That is because the spots are caused by the mint, not by something that happens after it leaves the mint. It's the same reasoning they use to grade error coins as MSXX.

And yes NGC does have a guarantee.

gold and silver prices higher and higher

both gold and silver posted higher today. that helps those (w) unc gold series look better and safe.
