i don't think b franklin will be sold out. year 2006 is not good for coin investment. silver is quite high. i also think 2006 nickels will be bubble. one billion coins will be produced.

the 2006 founding father modern commemorative silver proof and uncirculated coins were the first to officially declared sold out. the mint said, the product is unavailable.

my estimated mintages for benjamin franklin silver dollars are as follows:

scientist silver dollar proof: 158,250
scientist silver dollar unc: 41,650
scientist & chonicles set (unc): 49,900

founding father dollar proof: 170,600
founding father dollar unc: 29,300
founding father & legacy set (proof): 49,900

what are yours?.


ps.....50,000 set for each chonicles and legacy set are not low as compared to uncirculated single piece scientist or founding father silver dollar.

 

Numismatic News has mintages as;

Franklin Scientist Unc- 108,000 (includes 50,000 from Coin and Chronicles)
Franklin Scientist Proof- 142,000
Franklin Founding Father- Unc- 58,000
Franklin Founding Father Proof- 192,000(includes 50,000 from Legacy Set to be released later this year)

That makes the Founding Father in Unc the lowest mintage by far.

is it safe to buy 2006 nickels?. if so, buy it from the mint or the coin dealers?. if so, mint sell 100 roll or 50 two rolls set at $447.50 plus $4.95 shipping. total cost $452.45. while well known dealers sell 100 roll for $349.00 plus $4.00 shipping. or $353.00. there is a gap of $99.45 between the two suppliers. and some smaller dealers sell 100 roll at $290.00 plus $4.95 shipping or $294.95. you saved $157.50 as compared to u.s. mint. and saved $58.05 from well known dealers. but the different is u.s. mint paper wrapping is very attractive and direct source. well known dealers are bank rolls. and the smallers is using hand wrapping. not tight enough. which is which. you decide.

 

i once thought as you do, and still do ina a way, but listening to what other collectors have said on this forum makes u think...

basically a nickle is a nickle.... the coins in the mint wrapping do not come from the mint... a third party wraps them for the mint. So the coins get shipped to them, they wrap them and send them back to the mint.... it would seem to me that the nickle in a mint wrapper is not garunteed tobe shinier or less marked then the coins in a non-mint-wrapped roll.

Do i collect the mint wrapped rolls - yes. not because i think they will be worth more in the future, but becasue i am a collector. I do pay a premium over what i could get the nickles for from the bank, but they do look nice...

I think as long as you know what you are getting .. no harm done... its the many who think they have got to have the mint wrapped rolls because they will be worth more... i guess on that only time will tell
