Well I'm kind of skeptical now because the matter of fact I even uploaded a couple of coins in my pops and he went to a dealer and one of his clients he got appraised at $50 and y'all said it was damaged also so that's why I'm skeptical it's just just seems to me that every time I upload something it's either damage this that or the other yes some are damaged but some are not my pictures do not come out very well and it's just it just kind of crazy I understand you all are experts but it's just a matter of the fact and even some of my wheat pennies some of them do have errors and y'all said damage but I did get them verified they were errors from the mint that's why I am skeptical. No disrespect I know y'all are the experts I'm no expert here.

What part of the design caused the "signature" to be put there? You really have to say "how could this happen" instead of just saying it's there. If that dealer was stupid enough to say it's valued at $50 ask him if he'll buy it! I bet he won't!

Oldhoopster It seemed like a good idea at the time.

The key to knowing what you have, is learning the minting and currency printing process. Like any new subject, this takes time and effort to really understand.

Many of those responding to your questions have a great deal of knowledge in these areas. They’ve built their credibility on CT by demonstrating this knowledge again and again. It may be difficult for a new member to know who is credible and who is blowing smoke, but once you’re on here for a while, it’s easy to figure out. In addition, if somebody posts incorrect information as an answer, it will be corrected very quickly. So, if you get 2 or 3 responses saying the same thing, there is a high probability that it’s correct.

One last thing. I have been involved in numismatics for almost 50 years and have known a number of dealers from small local shops and guys who just set up at local shows, to large national dealers. Some are very knowledgeable about errors and others don’t know parts of their anatomy from a hole in the ground. To be honest, the people who have told that your note is an error fall into the latter category. Do you assume the same local mechanic that does a good job fixing your Chevy can fix a classic Ferarri or Lamborghini? Maybe, but maybe you want to ask a group of Italian Sports Car enthusiast what they recommend. Just sayin’

Nyatii I like running w/scissors. Makes me feel dangerous

We used to have a "shrunken head" hanging in the local university museum that had his lips sewed shut. Looked just like old Washington.

You are free to submit your "error" coins and currency to a TPG and see what they say, but the experience that comes from the members here on CT should tell you that your local coin dealer "expert" has no idea what they are talking about. Usually it doesn't pay to have a coin slabbed as the cost will probably exceed the value, but please do as you wish.

@jonathan layne I can grip reality .ok .it's just like a Lincoln Wheat Cent I have on the reverse of this lincoln wheat cent on the left wheatwat tge bottom it has extra copper and some say damage. And clearly it is not here it is, Picture isn't too good. I'll try to upload a better pic soon. But this is just one of quite a few that is not damage that y'all say is. No disrespect at all. It's just these dealers do not buy the error/DD coins around here. They just let me know yes they r errors/DD etc or no they r not. So just saying. Again no disrespect. And yes the 1981 S is a Type 2 the guy even looked it up in the coin book and said so exactly. My phone does not take good pics at all .that's why my pics look the way they do. And all my coins look damaged

I will try to get a better one right now but not too sure if my phone will work. As it doesn't do too well .that's why all my coins look like it's damage. But this coin is not damage .DEFINATELY it is not. Just saying. No disrespect. It's my phone just died not take good pics at all again that's why all my coins look to be damage. Because my phones camera is krap. But this Lincoln wheat cent is DEFINATELY not damage .

No disrespect, but if your dealer said the ink on the lips came from the Mint that is a good indication that he doesn't know what he is talking about, because the mint doesn't make paper money.

As for your 81 S cent, the pictures aren't very good, but I would agree that it is a type 2.
