Yeah, that's me. He contacted me first, though, wondering if I could explain these notes--it was one of the first of his Ebay auctions that I linked back in the top post of this thread (though it's too old now for the Ebay link to work...annoying how Ebay links do that). Quite a few of us serial-number nerds have been mulling over this run for months now. This week somebody found another wrong-position note (B06796494* G2, should be D3), so we're up to four different positions affected by whatever's going on. *If* the serialling patterns noted in the Ebay auction keep holding up, then although there are a lot of messed-up notes from this run, there'll only turn out to be 10,000 of these notes from completely outside the reported serial range, namely 07090001-07100000. Which would make them very rare indeed...except that this particular Ebay seller appears to have acquired at least four or five BEP straps of them, which supply ought to keep CU examples of this range reasonably affordable for the forseeable future. But the run is sufficiently confused that I'd really like to wait and collect a good bit more data before I feel sure that I understand what happened here.... This isn't anything like any of the several misnumbered or misreported runs that have occurred in the past, so we're very much working it out as we go along. So, if anybody has any other notes from the 2006 $1 Run #3 range, B06400001* through B09600000*, please do post the serial number and plate position. At this point I'll be very surprised if anyone ever finds a note between 07040001-07090000 or between 07100001-09600000. But then, my last three or four theories about this run turned out to be wrong too....
Thanks Numbers. I will keep looking for any notes and keep my eye's open in other threads if I should see other questions about the notes pop up. As always, I greatly admire your in depth response, detailed information about the work you do and the straight-forward manner in which you explain it to us here on Ct. Thanks. :smile
I just checked my spreadsheet and I have the following note: B 07106847 * plate # H72 Let me know if you need more info.
Yes, it does. Could you post the plate position (letter/number pair at upper left) and plate numbers (lower right on both sides) from those notes? Thanks!
That serial number and plate number are very different from anything previously reported from this run. Are you sure that this note is Series 2006?
Sorry for the confusion...turns out it is a Series 2003 note. I do have the following note in front of me though: 2006 B07094383* front plate: F227 rear plate: 233
Great, thanks! What's the plate position on that one, another F4? (So far all of the notes with serials outside the reported range have been these 0709xxxx numbers with position F4.)
