It's been damaged, maybe by acid. Welcome to CT?

Thanks! I got in change a few days ago and thought it was unique looking. The acid theory sounds more plausible than sandblasting.

I have a number of older and newer error coins and a few silver certificates I picked in the past couple of years and a large roll of nice Morgan’s and a few other 18th and 19th century gold and silver coins. I got the bug for collecting again a few years ago after I discovered that the collection I helped my Mom build from the 70’s were stolen by one of her caretakers when she was older...I always picked up the rare coins at the coin shop in town when I saved up for them as a kid.

I also think that it is because of environmental damage.
