A few weeks ago I commented in a thread about the opportunity the 2005 Jefferson-Bison nickels presented. Buy a roll of nickels, and send them to friends and relatives as an incredibly cheap day-brightener with the added benefit that you’re planting seeds for new collectors. Well, one of my seeds took root: my stepson told me that the two nickels I sent him (packaged in Air-Tites) piqued his interest enough that he is going to start collecting coins now ! Guess he figures that with the 2005-D and 2005-P nickels plus the 2004 Silver Eagle I sent last year that he’s half-way there ! :) I’m going to give his newfound interest a boost by sending him my 2004 Red Book (I knew I was keeping that for something) and my Coin Collecting for Dummies. And, I’ll go to a local dealer and get him an early 70s proof set (you can get those for about $6.00; unbelievable). He lives in Denver. Maybe I can get my pocket change quarter collection up to date on the state quarters: I have everything except the D mint coin on six quarters. He could be a handy resource for Denver minted coins.
