2005 Jefferson Bison issue

  1. A friend of mine showed me this 2005 P Jefferson Bison nickel that appears to be missing the silver coating and has copper showing through.

Question 1: Would this issue constitute an error - if so what kind?

Question 2: Can you point me in the direction for additional information?

The coin does not appear to have been electroplated or had the other layers added to it post minting process. The coin is completely smooth and shows no signs of having been altered by anyone. I have attached photos from my cell phone. When I have a chance I'll attach better resolution photos from home.

Nickels are NOT coated with silver.
They aren't even clad nor ever plated.
They are made of a solid Cupronickel Planchet. It's a combination of Nickel and Copper.

I looks like your Nickel might have been Improperly Annealed when it was created.
