Hello I am a new user to the forum. I recently came across this quarter that was copper. I was told it might be worth something being a possible error coin. Has anyone else come across one of these? are these common? Thanks in advance

What you have is not an error coin; it's just a regular quarter that's been exposed to the elements. It still retains good eye appeal, but is not really worth more than $0.25.

Also, welcome to the forums. :)

    First, welcome to the neighborhood!

Others have found coins similar to yours, thinking that they were missing one or both of the clad layers. The first thing you need to do is weigh your coin. A normal SQ should weigh 5.67gms. Obviously, an SQ missing both clad layers should weigh less. I might add that it is very rare to find a coin, any coin, missing both clad layers.

My best guess is that the surface of your coin has been altered by either chemical or environmental damage.

Thats too bad. I guess it would be cool to keep. However, I will take a look into the weight of it.
