I posting a few pictures of the 2001 P Kennedy Half Convexo-Concavo error. I purchased several bags of the 2001 P & D half's last year from the mint. The 2001 Kennedy was not released to the banks from the mint. These spoon shaped halfs pictured are what I found. You cant stack them they will fall over see pic as to how spooned they are . Worth? Anyone? I will also add there is a clash mark that runs from the ED in united thru the stars field down to the letters LF in half....another one that runs thru the Rays over the eagle. I do own a micro scope cam but can't reduce the picture size to up load . Any help there also? Thanks Paddy
It looks likie a misaligned die and it looks like it took the top portion of the S out in states. Joe
Paddy: Do you have 'my pictures' on your computer? Then e-mail them to yourself, you'll be asked if you want to reduce the pictures. Then save the sent e-mail. And up load that. Also, there is a nice die crack thru the stars under America. As far as the others, unknown. But, I have to wonder, one piece, perhaps, but 2?
The few that have sold on eBay went for somewhere between $50 and $75. Underpriced, in my opinion. This is one of the most interesting die deformation errors of all time.
It's only this particular die pair that shows this error. So yes, they're all 2001-P. The reverse die is marked by peculiar, semicircular die cracks that run though the small stars. Both dies are deformed. The reverse die was sunken-in, creating a convex reverse face. The obverse die bulged out a bit, creating a slightly concave obverse. This error is unique among U.S. coins, although it has been seen in one privately issued replica of a 1943 copper cent. I wrote up this die error in a past issue of Errorscope.
Sorry guys that I have not answered sooner...went out fishing today with my Nephew on the Chesapeake Bay.... not a good day blew the transmission... and crawled back into port. Anyway I found these in bags from the U.S. mint they are unc. as these coins were never released from the mint for circulation. I had about 15 or so out of maybe 5 bags. I still have 5 left in anyone in interested pm me and we can work out a trade or deal . Any way these are very cool errors! They will spin like a top on the rev. side and if you stack them they will fall over ...see the picture of the two I am holding together the gap you see is the difference of the two coins heald together...if that make sense. Some of them have some nice toning around the rim area. Will post more later need a shower and some clothes that don't smell like Charlie the tuna. Paddy
