He still has them.</p><p><br /></p><p>The real misunderstanding is this - the phrases struck for circulation and released for circulation are two different things. Yes the mint struck the coins for circulation in 2001. However the Federal reserve banks in the east never asked for any coins from the mint because they had enough already so non were released into circulation.
