I'm not sure it's going to show that well in this photo, but notice the mint mark? The same effect follows from the left eye all the way down the face. Fairly flat but very pronounced and sticks out quite a ways. Also, note the stretch marks. Could be machine doubling but very much so all the way down the face. Nothing to report on the reverse so I did not post a reverse photo. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks.
IIRC a doubled mint mark indicates strike doubling every time. I almost had a stroke when I thought I had a full red BU 1969-S doubled die cent until I noticed the S was doubled. No cigar.
Just because the mintmark has doubling does not mean it isn't the DDO. At least one specimen of the major 69-S DDO cent has strong MDD on the mintmark. Remember doubled dies can have machine doubling as well.
You are right, machine doubling is independent of any die issues, it can be seen on doubled dies and normal dies.
I would like to know why it has three rings on the inside of the rim?By in god we trust. Can someone explain that?
There's also doubling on the inside of the left eye, in the OD in God and all of Trust. Not flat or shelf like. I'll try and get a few more pics tomorrow.
