And we have a winner ! congrats to dddd for correctly guessing the grade as MS66. Please PM me and I will send you your prize.
You did great you have to remember grading is highly subjective and open to inturpitation one person can see things a different way then you see it the MS 64 isn’t much better a little more luster is Zanout all.
I'll get into the game....here's a coin I wanted to bid on but I had one major issue with it (tell ya later ). Grade might surprise some, maybe not others. Nice looking coin, it is NOT AU so you all should be somewhat close to the actual grade.
The 1927 in MS-67 or MS-66+ or MS-66 CAC is quite pricey, it separates from the other "commons" like the 1908 NM and 1924.
Lots of luster on that coin but those nasty spots on the front would be a total turn off for me, but that would probably not have much affect on the grade will go MS 66 based on the luster alone.
That one looks very clean (hit free) for a gold coin, so I will guess MS 67. The spots would bother me on such a high grade coin though.
I'm not a big collector of the Saint-Gaudens, in fact, I don't have one. I like to watch and read about them though. I have one question... during my reading about the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, I read several references about a "wire" in the Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle. Am I seeing things or is there a "wire" in a type of Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle?
Wire and Flat-edge types for the MCMVII 1907 High Relief. It's really a thin fin, a defect, that was ultimately corrected by adjusting the striking pressure and collar. Wire outnumbers flat by about a 3:1 ratio.
