I Received 2 State Quarters last Week that have 2 Separate and Distinct MintMark's. S and I believe P. I tried to google them but Nothing Came up. Somebody want to Educate me Again. I'm still on the road and cant post till this Evening. .
Allow me to repeat from Clawcoins, with emphasis: Modern coins do not get two mintmarks! I DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK YOU SEE. There may be an S, or there may be a P, but NOT both.
I'll be home this evening. I thought maybe a Proof from Different mints or Something I had Never Seen.
Don't get your hopes up. The MM on all State Quarter dies are put directly on the hub, so extra mintmarks are not possible. There is a very high probability that you're seeing a stray mark or some other type of PMD
The only way a state quarter die could have two mintmarks would be if the die was hubbed by a P mint hub and an S mint hub (after 1990 the mintmarks were in the hubs). But since by the time the state quarters were being made the mint was using single squeeze hubbing, that would not be possible either. So it is NOT possible to have two mintmarks on a state quarter.
