Hi all, take a look at this, is this a bonding mill cerror? Both sides are missing. I have included each side of the coin also. Thanks for any input!
It is very unlikely that both sides would be missing the clad layer. Besides, if it were missing even one clad layer, it should have a copper color to it like this...... Right, @Cheech9712 !
That would be Environmental toning damage. As stated.. Missing clad layer usually occurs on one side only.
Clad coins are made of Cupro-Nickel. That's 75% Coppee and 25% Nickel. When the clad is exposed to the elements the copper tones. Here are examples from my metal detecting finds - It happens to Nickels also.
Looks completely normal. Always weigh a coin you have a question about, because if it weighs correctly, that will answer a great deal of the possible questions.
Yep, appears to be just environmental damage, as already stated, but a curious looking coin for sure. I can see why you questioned it.
Best coin ever. I would get on the bus for free forever flashing that gem. I show my driver all my good coins
@paddyman98 your coins are also special. BUT not as big. Love that copper sided coins. I thought I had one but never showed it. Now it’s in the jug. Never to be found by me again
