    I'm pretty sure they quit hand punching nickels after 1985. I think the other denominations followed in 1990. I know I read this somewhere, just gotta find it.

    I would say based on the last pic that you have a Nickel that was produced late in the life of a die. Die Deterioration Doubling. Look at the flat shelf like appearance of the 9's in the date. If your convinced otherwise I would suggest you send the coin to either James Wiles or Mike Ellis. If you need contact info for either let me know.

    My first post on this thread. And yes there is some die deteriation. Die deteriation and polishing was the reason most details were repunched or repaired in the first place.

    From everything I have read, repunching stopped in the early 1900s.
