This looks like it was struck as a penny as well. The color plus on the reverse side it looks like a faint sign of a head print...anyone know about this?
All is just Environmental Damage. The color is due to exposure to the elements. For example, I metal Detect and have found hundreds of Nickels such as yours that were affected by dirt, soil, sand and water. Nickels change colors gradually after some time. Here are examples I have found -
A true Nickel struck on a Cent Planchet would be the same size, thickness and weight of a Cent Planchet Here is an example from my collection - Also.. Coins are struck not printed.
Thank you for your opinion. I am going to research it more. The photo iItook dorsdnot shoe the true look i om willing to bet the metal composition is different. It s fun to research anyway.
Lol. I will bet the nickel! Just for [edited] and giggles. You are probably correct. However I am going to have my friend look at it.
