Thanks fir the heads up. It's seams like a lot of people are saying to stay away from you tube and seamingly from some knowledgeable people in the field which makes sense to me. So do these errors even get sold at auctions and such or is it only a mint collector type hobbie? Just always saved 64 and before. Never collected other than silver. So I was interested in it as a hobbie but also to run the numbers as a look through and score s desireable coin and make a bit as well. Not sure if I have a good understanding of the hobbie it seams. Because of you tube. Not sure how to go another direction other than reading books. Which I guess there are some good reads though but to get that instand regognition of that awesome coin is so cool too. Thanks for your suggestion.

352sdeer Collecting Lincoln cents for 50 years!

You survived one of the toughest gauntlets I’ve seen in awhile. AND came out on the other side with a good attitude. You are worthy now just hang out and join in on some of the dialog and get a feel for how to not look foolish when you post and comment. Basically don’t do what I do and you’ll be okay! Lol.

Do a search on the forums for keywords like DDO or DDR or whatever coin you have and read through some of the threads. Some threads have pages and pages and it helps to read through them. I've learned quite a lot by reading those threads specially for something similar to what I found. Look out for any websites (TPGs, wexler, etc.) they give you which can help you understand even more on what the errors/varieties look like. PCGS has example photos of a lot of coins as well as Wexler for DDOs/DDRs which is what I go to to compare what I find. Hope this helps.

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

If you have decided that errors and varieties are going to be your thing (not mine, but hey...), I would do a lookup on “Wexler coin varieties” and try to narrow it down to his actual stuff, rather than sites ABOUT his stuff. Good luck.

When I was roll hunting, Cherry pickers guide, was the go to book for photos, and Coneca Master listings for Die markers.

Cherry pickers guide is available at Barnes and Noble.
If you are interested in Variety's such as Doubled Dies, Repunched Mint Marks, or Errors I would encourage you to do some reading on the minting process first. This will help you understand what happens at the mint, and what is Post mint damage.

Wexlers site is very informational. Read through the topics located in the left side of the page.

As a young collector I would suggest that you hunt higher grade coins first, worn coins can be challenging even for the seasoned collector. Happy hunting and hope you find the big one.

Honesty was taught to me at a very young age by my Dad. Let's just say I will not forget it. You will be remembered for your honesty when you are gone. Along with all the great girls you dated. :) Be honest, it makes life better.

There are a couple of people on Youtube that I would trust with their advice, This is not one of them. I stopped watching when I read the part that said look at the doubling on the smooth part....... Not a good video. I like to watch JBCoins and Blueridgesilverhound. Pay attention to the books everyone tells you about on here and with a little time you should be good!
