1998 D LMC lam. Error?

    This one is strange. Coin shows like die deterioration (very flat like). Possibly grease filled strike and copper came off?     The rims and those letters have been flattened
    by contact with something.

    Copper plating doesn't come 'off' like that.

    Thanks Fred. It's just seems strange how all the letters on obverse are flat and spread out and missing some copper plating. Letters look kind of squished out for lack of a better term.

    Did you find it near the ground of the Empire state building? Reminds me of these hillbilly kids who would cut shotgun shells open and fill them with dimes and shoot stop signs.
