Lehigh to answer your last question first... yes I do... I can e mail you or post some pic's. I agree to a point to what both you and Doug posted.

In the 1960's when I was a young collector....I just about finished my Jefferson collection up to lets say 1963...missing only the 1950-D! Now again you must remember that # 1 it's 1963 I'm now 9 y/o and the U.S. dollar is worth a $1! Gold is a steady $35.00 an ounce and silver about $2.50 @ oz. The 1950-D in lets say XF is now selling for $35.00 and hard to find for that matter.

Now at 7 I had my first job a news paper route making a whooping $2.00 @ week! base ball cards are 5 cents a pak. lunch at Geno's the east coast version of micky-D's cost 25 cent a burger, fries and a choc. milk shake!

Now that the world knows I'm a dino.... the 50 -D was out of reach for me. As stated the 50-D was hard to find in circulation. almost impossible...you had to go to a show or coin shop. This was a coin that was hoarded in rolls due to the fact of the low mintage. Thats is why I do agree to a point...but even the 50-D mintage is much higher than the 1997-P SP even higher than the 94-P SP. with the mintages of 25 K and what 161,000 of the 94 I still believe this coin is worth collecting, and holding.

Funny thing since the 50 -D is still a key coin in the Jefferson collection even thro a lot have hit the market BU's or better @ $15.00 in 2009 money! Another thing that tickles my funny bone is that in my contest one of the prizes is a MS-65 nice toned 1950-D nickel. The very nickel as a 10 y/o I could not afford to buy. ....and on par with the cost of an ounce of the yellow stuff! If the trend of 1963 held true today how much would a 1950-D be worth ...in 1963 money? Think about it this Dino is too tired to do the math....LOL

I always try to tell people who are younger than I two things History always repeats it's self.....and trends come and go! If you are working on a collection no matter what it is stamps, coins, what ever...I believe you want to build the best that you can afford. Also that you're never happy until you hit your mark....but 1/2 the fun is getting there! I hope all of this makes sense to you ....Oh and one other note yes I am a DINO in some matters but very young at heart....and this in closing I watched the Flintstones first runs on TV! Now who's green with envy!
