I do own 2 red single row 2x2 boxes with error coins in them that I got for a few bucks in a bulk auction lot. Somebody spent lots of time documenting them. In about 60% of them, even under a 10x loupe, I don't see an error. I see lots of PMD and lots of crummy quality strikes, and a few errors. I've decided that some people just see what they want to see.
Well I am disappointed with the negativity. I will have it weighed and post it. I am a server at Waffle House and see many coins, just thought this one was interesting and wanted to find out more about it. Maybe if I looked for "errors"in coins for 53 years and never found one, I too might be a bit jaded. I am not looking for a big payday, just knowledge. I am a holder of a B.S. and a mother of three, whom has lived a very exciting life. I am not your average female. And find it degrading of the "female" issue some people have. I am going to find the answer. Just remember curiosity gets people interested in new things. Please don't be condescending to "new" people here.
Please ignore people like him, I won't make excuses for him or call him names, I will simply state that there are many knowledgeable folks in this forum and if you can stomach the ones who are rude, you can learn quite a bit.
Oh excuuuuuse meeeeee. Maybe you should have said up front that you only wanted to hear opinions from rah-rah cheerleaders. I'm not one, and I am paid by my state legislature to separate wheat from chaff. I am NOT the smiling happy talking glad hander. He hired me to tell him the unvarnished truth. It's what I do. When he's not lying, chances are he's repeating what I told him. Ever watch C-SPAN? Ever see the staffer lean forward and whisper in the Chairman's ear when he says something questionable? Yeah. In Pennsylvania, that's me.
@V. Kurt Bellman Please stop embarrassing yourself and the rest of us in this forum by continuing to post needlessly and harass people from your keyboard. @BrandyS75 all you have to do is click on someone's name and then select "ignore" tab and you'll never have to read their posts again.
I still want to know what happened all of a sudden the last few days that now 6 new people are posting threads almost exactly like this one. It's weird.
Ok Kurt Bellman lets tone it down a notch I understand there is a coincidence that there are more and more people becoming CT members that have questions about "questionable errors" but from my understanding this form is here for people to talk about coins and ask questions, whether the coin is a legit error or not we shouldn't be condescending to the OP because that runs people away from the hobby and we all know that there are less and less people becoming interested in coins and we can't afford to run people off.
Bellman, go purchase a bottle of magnesium citrate, chug it, sit on a toilet, and have yourself a pleasant bowel movement. Otherwise, quit whining because people are trying to get answers and they can't because you're weighing in while all plugged up and miserable. -11BB4
On a lighter and more of a strange coinsidence talking about finding errors while working retail I found a 2009 dollar bill with offset inking and if I'm right and it is it will be the first paper money error I have found. When I go over to a friends that has a scanner I'll scan it and post to verify on the paper money forum. I'm about %90 sure it is real and not someone's attempt at faking but then again in not much on paper money.
Okay, I need to chill. I'm 61, a two time cancer survivor, one time cerebral hemorrhage survivor, and in 24/7 physical pain greater than I ever figured on needing to deal with for even an hour. I also give MASSIVE time and treasure to the ANA. I get a little cranky about people not wanting to listen to good advice. My apologies. In fairness to THIS particular OP, she did not aggressively push back against good advice as most have done. I transferred that from other threads, and that was wrong of me. The trend or coincidence still has me scratching my head, though. It's almost definitely NOT a coordinated thing, but it sure looks funny. If anyone has any idea, maybe something in mass media, that suddenly has people looking at their change in early September 2016, who never did before, let me know. It's really strange. In my field, new stuff coming up around September is seldom random. How did all these non coin people happen to stumble upon CT at the same time?
Welcome to the fun Brandy. For a correct answer about the coin, the weight is really important. It looks to be just a ground find to me but it's weight will give you the truth about the coin.
Asking for more on this. Is this the "other printing method" that produced slightly different sized notes? Was it not found worthy of mass use, aka a failed experiment?
I'm not sure I understand what your asking. Sorry I know very little about paper money as I've recently just started learning about the process. I found the note in the time this thread was started and I'm going over to my friends house tonight after work and I will post a pic of it on the paper money forum. Like I said in just learning about paper money and one of the errors that I have read about is offset ink transfer which is where the image of a note lying either on top or bottom or both on some occasions is transferred to another note because the notes are still wet, that's what I found on the internet.
Oh, oh, oh. I completely misunderstood you. Now I know what you mean. Sounds cool. There was some years ago a Bureau of Engraving and Printing experiment with a rotary press method of printing notes as compared to the regular flat method. It produced two things - a slightly different sized note, and some rare notes, because some FRB codes were rare on the rotary press. That's what I thought you were talking about. What you WERE talking about is way cool.
I'll say as far as Bellman is concerned. I'm not quite your age and fight a different struggle than you. I do understand the living with 24/7 pain. I agree sometimes I get a little anal, but that's because I'm very sarcastic in nature. If you can't poke fun in life every now & then, then screw it. BUT I'VE NEVER used the excuse that I'm in pain for being anal. I see a lot of different people with all sorts of personal struggles use that as an excuse. Personally I don't know how people like that get anything done. In the end we have to survive in this world, bills gotta get paid & you have to eat. I think it's great when new people show interest in the hobby & I will take my jabs at people, usually the know it all dumb asses that truly asks stupid questions. There have been posts recently simular to the OP, yes. But ya need better judgement before jumping down someone's throat before you go all, know it all dumb ass.
The pain just shortens the tolerance for foolishness. I transferred the refusals of other similar posters to listen to reason onto this person, and that was a big boo-boo on my part. She did nothing wrong and bore the brunt of my built up annoyance with others who DID refuse to listen to people more experienced than I. My sloppiness. My mistake. I am constantly aware that my pain management issues do make me one sarcastic SOB as well. It's either deal with it or get hooked on mind altering opioids, and THAT I refuse to do. Too many heroin overdose corpses at the end of that path. My pain is neurological / idiopathic. They can't find an organic cause. So it can't be fixed. It doesn't stop it from causing organic results, like tensed muscles that can't relax. 24/7 for 7 years. Do they relax when I sleep? I don't know; I'm unconscious. Every day I make it through is its own mini-victory, and that's the way I measure life - make it through tomorrow. People far less impaired than I sit and collect disability. I'm not wired that way.
As a healthcare worker I see a lot of people like you Bellman. However, I've never met a cancer survivor who is miserable like you. I work with a lot of cancer survivors, mostly geriatrics, and they're all full of life. If you say your a two time survivor, wear it proud and don't drag it behind you. EVERY cancer victim would had loved to be in your position and survived. Consulant Healthcare systems Gerontology Department Assistant Director, MHA
It's not the cancers that have me beaten up, it's the cerebral hemorrhage's idiopathic damage left behind. It never goes away, not for even a second. I've destroyed molars from grinding. Recently, I can't even hold a coin by the edge in my right hand, and I'm right handed. I've seen supposedly the best neurologists on the east coast. Nobody has any answers. Botox is the next idea, just to relieve the spasticity.
