1996 concentric circles in field

    I think gx is right, they look like lathe lines.

    So then, are lathe lines considered an error or just a poor quality die, er what?

    What I have gathered from the website, and some forum discussions I found here, and other sites is this. They are "very rare". They are mint errors in that the lathe lines are in the die. They are supposed to be removed before the die is complete. The coins were struck and quality control let them pass, or were unaware of their existence
    However there are 15 different obverse varieties for the 1996D Lincoln. They are labeled and categorized just like doubled dies or mint marks.
