Hi, I recently read about where a United States Mint employee told them that the doubled dies he showed them were intentionally struck in order to educate mint employees on what a doubled die coin looked like and that coin was on a 1995 D penny. I recently found a 1995 d penny and as a novice coin collector was wondering if this is indeed DD. Both sides are in question. Please let me know what you think.
The Lincoln Cent Resource shows one Doubled Die 1995 D. Yours would seem to be MD and or DDD, considering the doubling is on both sides. 1995 D Doubled Die Obverse (lincolncentresource.com) Other sites for checking if it is considered a DD are explained in error-ref.com and varietyvista.com. Oh Really? Please share the source where you read that story. I find it hard to believe. Your Cent is definitely not a Doubled Die. As mentioned before it is Die Deterioration doubling. Just a worn die strike.. worthless doubling.
Thanks for clearing that up for me? One more for u though. What do u think of this one? Appreciate everyone teaching me and giving suggestions/links!
