I went and spoke my to bullion and coin man and he showed me he also told me a couple of my coin that someone on here told me was worth nothing actually are
Seriously... Many of the old farts on this site like to play with the new people. If you dont already have the cherry pickers guide buy them. v1 and v2 (two books) amazon has them for a really good bargain. I actually watched this site and waited nearly a year before signing up when i posted my first coin i seriously made an error and paid dearly for it. No love for new people on this site even if one admits their error. Dont run away from the site though. its better then the youtube clowns for the most part. Dont go to heritage for help either. those people will stab you in the back. Anyway... welcome to CT its not a family its a obstacle course.
I don't know, I think about this place as a family of collectors trying to help newbies like myself. Of course, I have yet to post a coin pic.
Just because people own a coin shop doesn't mean they're knowledgeable about varieties and errors. Most only know the big ones and deal mostly with silver and gold.
Yeah that would be great. BUT, If you are trying to help someone, teach them what they need to know or direct them to where they need to go to get the information you deem they lack. DO NOT put them down and try and make yourself their superior. I can guarantee you as a CX PM i would have fired many for their behavior.
Which coins? Please post pictures, or link to your thread, of the coins he said are worth more than face.
What coins are you referring to? There are some extremely knowledgeable people on here that put a lot of time and effort into helping educate new collectors. I can't imagine that a consensus of responses would give you the wrong answer. Maybe some answers are short and you do get a few snarky responses for things like the 69-s DDO and 82-D Small date copper (they shouldn't do it, but the site get so many questions about this stuff, the inside jokes come off as being rude). If you really want to see some savage responses, you should see what happens when an arrogant "expert" is wrong. They will be immediately and unmercifully corrected. There are a couple of things that will get a new member a bad rap, and subject them to some hostile posts. 1. Argumentative questioning when a response(s) is obviously correct to anyone with some basic understanding of the minting process. The key word is argumentative. Things like "It can't be plated, I've had it this silver cent in desk for 30 years, so it must be an error", just makes you shake your head. When this happens, you occasionally get "sour grapes" responses saying that we all hate new members, don't want to help, etc 2) Using the forum to answer numerous questions without any indication of trying to learn anything on their own. It's pretty easy to spot the same questions that come up multiple times and you know that person was given links to help them in previous posts. When you start seeing responses like "Did you check the reference site", you know you may falling into this category. Now back to the coins you said were valuable. You may be slightly correct. Many times we will say that coin is only worth face value, when In fact it may be worth 25cents to $1. The problem is that it's going to be extremely difficult to sell this stuff. Dealers won't buy it and you can't make enough on ebay to cover your fees. If a dealer is buying $50 face value bags of wheat cents for $150, are you going to walk in and sell you circulation find for 3 cents? So is it really "worth" that if you can't sell it? I've seen cool minor errors that on here that I would give you a quarter for if you showed it to me at the local coin club meeting. But, I'm going to bother buying it on ebay. I suspect you may have this kind of stuff. And remember, ignore the "sour grapes" guys. There are a lot of former newbies on here, who took the time to learn and are correctly answering posts to help others
I actually have a few in a box along with some 1930's toy cars that were given to me a few years ago. have advertising on them too. pretty cool stuff i think they were giving them out at fairs, and carnivals to be redeemed back in the day for drinks and food. Now we get paper tickets, the wooden nickle looks better.
Hey I have a copper dime and was told on here it was caused by damage but when I took it to my coin guy he said it was on a wrong planchett any how he advised me to send it in with one of my other coins that he told me to send in he even gave me a 1955 wheat to send with them he's for sure the first one I have is worth something
Let us know what they say when you get them back. Why would he give you a 1955 wheatie to send in? Who are you sending them to?
Because he really wants me to send in the error coin I found and his 1955 has errors and he said we can spit the profit on the 55 and I don't know who to send them to he gave me forms for PCGS and NGC
YOU need to be a member of either grading company, but PCGS would probably bring more money if you intend to auction them off, but ngc is a lower cost to grade. BOTH are great... Please keep in mind look at the pcgs grading pages for your coin and be hard on your coins grade prior to sending in.
This one? https://www.cointalk.com/threads/1969-d-dime-all-copper.317131/ What was the other coin that was sent in? Please be sure to respond and post the results when you get them back.
This is the coin you recently posted. If you're coin guy said it's an error, then you need to find a new coin guy
