after all this time I learned something new. whenever attributing my finds the only die markers I have seen listed are the die dots, gouges, die scratches, etc. I do mostly quarters so if I may ask another question which may not be my brightest question but... is MM location as die marker used for all denominations that MM were hand punched?
Yes, MM location is a factor in all the coin series. I might suggest that you go back through some of your coins, and look at the MM position to make sure that you have the correct variety.
I find this educational and appreciate the suggestion. I am not a collector but a seller. I pretty much only do quarters 65-present. I do cents sometimes but only look for the nice ones that bring a premium. really in regards to what I do the only ones off the top of my head that I could apply that to is the 72 LC's? if MM location applies to those varieties.
I would check, just to confirm. 72D has 7 I believe, and 72S has 5. It sure wouldn't hurt. Some DDO's are pretty distinct in the LC series, but get into others, such as Buffalo Nickels The MM placement is very helpful.
