Rick these 2 you labeled a 004 and 002 are actually the same. It was from the camera angle and my flash. Sorry about all that. I have been taking a lot of pics of diff stuff and forgot about this crazy coin. Automatically I said someone clipped it but its like a full railroad but both sides gone. Looks like lettering placed on top of the displaced metal is the only reason I questioned it. But the face you can see where something was on it. Just weird.
The post you quoted clearly mentioned the fact the posted photo, of an already attributed coin, was from coinfacts. Unfortunately, the coin shown in the OP is not of this variety.
You're very welcome, and there's no harm in asking. If you haven't done so yet, consider spending some quality time at http://doubleddie.com/. There's a ton of excellent and educational info on everything from the minting process, to the different forms of doubling, and listings of individual varieties, etc, etc. A belated welcome to the forum to you as well.
Thanks. I have been there but haven't spent more than 30 min total there. I definitely need more education on the minting process and different doubles etc. I jumped around too much in the beginning when I should have stuck with Lincoln's or halves. I have all types of currency from star notes to foreign coins. I get frustrated searching for 1 thing and not finding so I switch for a week or so.
I can't quite make out the "anomalies" as well as I'd like (my fault, not yours), but is likely damage or possibly corrosion. In fact, do you recall those old rubber-like dinner/place mats often used for picnics? It very much reminds me of the pattern displayed by coins left sitting on one for an extended period of time. This may not be the exact cause of your coin, but I'm sure you get the idea, which is that it's less important to know the exact cause of such a thing than it is to know the result of whatever it was. It's okay. I just wanted to avoid any confusion is all.
That's a good idea. I'm sure it was something to that effect. I'm a contractor so doing a lot of remodels and flips I go through and find all kinds of coins in walls (don't ask me how ) under floors, in attics. Vacant houses obviously. Waiting to find that stash of rolls or morgans that someone left behind in attic. Foreclosures and stuff there is no telling what you will find.
I wasn't talking about the OP coin, I was talking about the coin that was posted from coinfacts . http://www.pcgscoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/38111
Yeah I posted that with my 1995 to show you the coin I was referencing. I did screen shot from pcgs. So to be clear the one I posted is not anything other than 1c Lincoln. Ha. I even confuse myself sometimes. I think I got a little excited thinking I had a good 1. Haha. I just saw the 2 die gouges and thought they were the same. I will add it back to the pile.
Gee, Rick; if you hadn't posted the link I never would've known. It's not like this wasn't already mentioned, oh, at least twice. My post was intended for the OP (or anyone else reading this) and was to hopefully cut down on the potential confusion, already high with the posting of multiple different coins, including those that have absolutely nothing to do with the issue at hand.
The way my phone connects me to the forum and the order the messages came in I was lost on the order and who they were from originally. Ill make a different thread for different coins in future or make sure we are done with the first coin before throwing 37 more on the table. I'm a little adhd if you haven't noticed
It's okay, and that certainly wasn't meant as a slight towards you in any way. In fact, it was quite the opposite. That said, you're in good company and will fit in quite well.
Awesome. You guys have all been great with helping me. That's 1 thing I've learned since I've started collecting. Most people in this hobby will help you out. Its not like there aren't plenty of coins out there for everyone and then some. You have time to look at 1 more possibly?
