I can't find any reference to a 1994D doubled die. So, what am I to make of the D on this coin?

That would be Die deterioration doubling.
Plating issue. If the plating around the D mint mark is compromised then it will get zinc rot. Penny
And correct again, split plate doubling.
Thanks for the feed back on my cent. Does almost look like doubled die, doesn't it?
It's Zinc so take your best shot but it's not a Doubled Die.
