1993 wrong metal penny?

    spiritfree 1993 pennies are not copper.
    If it is larger than a regular penny, that is impossible since the penny
    machines at the mint can only mint pennies or smaller coins not larger.
    Someone has enlarged the coin by putting it inside a leather belt and smacking
    it with a rubber hammer creating a Texas cent. I have a few of these.

    No it's same size... I have steel pennies... Believe it may have been re-plated

    Your coin has probably been poorly plated.

    No. When a coin has been plated post mint, it is considered damage.
    That doesn't stop people from selling plated coins on TV (HSN, QVC, The Coin Collector) at a premium, but there is no numismatic value. It's face value.
    I have found a couple of gold plated quarters, and they are nice looking.
    And even if I can sell them for 50 cents, they are still only worth a quarter each.

    I have one too. I live in philadelphia pa. Any idea? I’ve kept this for years and just found it cleaning out the junk drawer in my kitchen.
