spiritfree 1993 pennies are not copper. If it is larger than a regular penny, that is impossible since the penny machines at the mint can only mint pennies or smaller coins not larger. Someone has enlarged the coin by putting it inside a leather belt and smacking it with a rubber hammer creating a Texas cent. I have a few of these. Here's one:
Yes... I was researching this penny amd seen where another was talked about and so I jumped in... YEARS later! Haha
I was replying to spirit free's post #13. Your coin has probably been poorly plated. Here's one I have that was gold plated:
No. When a coin has been plated post mint, it is considered damage. That doesn't stop people from selling plated coins on TV (HSN, QVC, The Coin Collector) at a premium, but there is no numismatic value. It's face value. I have found a couple of gold plated quarters, and they are nice looking. And even if I can sell them for 50 cents, they are still only worth a quarter each. (Looks nicer in hand.)
I have one too. I live in philadelphia pa. Any idea? I’ve kept this for years and just found it cleaning out the junk drawer in my kitchen. -chris
