ok i'm starting another new post about the 1986 P Lincoln Cent we have.
my father cracked open 2 rolls of 1986 pennies on which he bought from a bank
back in 1986 . The pennies are all Mint State Red without a doubt. 100 coins total from 1986 P .
also there are some errors or bad die hits, which will be all explained inside my next post along
with some GREAT pictures of the coins on which I just took minutes ago on my scanner.
Anyways thanks for the comments and check out my 1986 P penny post within the next half hour.

    thanks

So, what are your plans for it?

    thanks Ikandiggit.
well unfortunately we plan on selling it, so my father can use the money to grade other coins.
My father has better and older coins than this. He does own a 1972 Double die penny
and coins from the colonial era - 1900's.
problem is he has so many it will cost him a ton of dough to get them graded.
We don't have a ton of dough to grade them all, until we got this great find.

It's a shame you couldn't keep it but as you say the money will be put to good use. It's nice to get a windfall once in a while to help out with other endeavors.

    Again, Congratulations!.

trust me....my father wants to keep it badly, but he thought about it, and then realized
that his older coins are more important lol.

I know , but sometimes I like the BOLD since it helps me read it better lol !
I'm considering offering the coin for sale on Ebay.
What do you think I should start the bid at ? What do you think the coin will sell for ?

Any ideas , opinions , or suggestions ?

    thanks gladly appreciated
I love this site....I can't wait to show you guys some more rare coins.

I'd consign it to HA.com and let them hype it up a bit.

I think it'll probably fetch around 7k... maybe more if you have a few people with some cash to burn.

You do realize Ken Potter said in a article that its worth sell for over $10,000 in high AU grade which is Au58 Brown grades, which there are 3 of.
The AU 55 brown sold for $4,830 Jan 2009. This coin should easily fetch over 10K since its the only mint state red one graded.
I like the fact that there were 4.7 Billion of these pennies minted and only 7 of them have been found.
So realistically the odds of us finding this penny and getting such a high grade was like 700 Million to One !
Who knows it could fetch a crazy amount ? I'm basically asking realistically it could sell for, I'm expecting over 10K...
But you are free to give your opinion even if I think your value is lower than what I think.
Merc thanks for the site man, I'll check it out now. Take Care.

I dont know merc it sounds like the ha.com site is a auction site, but they seem like the may be a bit expensive and alot of language & contract stuff.
sorry about the bold, I copied and pasted this from the site.

$500 minimum appraisal fee or $350 per hour per Appraiser, whichever is higher. A daily rate of $2,800 per day for extensive on-site appraisals, plus out-of-pocket and travel expenses. All fees to be billed and payable upon delivery of the formal appraisal document.
    Travel Time:

Heritage does offer no-cost evaluations of property for potential appraisal or sale. Our initial consultation and even on-site evaluation will be free of charge. Please speak with our Appraisal Services Department for scheduling an evaluation.
    Appraisal Fee Rebates
If you later choose to sell property listed in a Heritage appraisal through a Heritage auction or private sale, all appraisal fees are fully refundable against the auction Seller's Commissions (but not against Buyer's Premiums) at a prorated rate based on the number and value of property consigned for sale.

You wanted my opinion and you got it, $8k. Heritage is the best place to sell it, imho, but if you wanna use eBay, that's your prerogative.

I think 7K to 9K is about accurate. Yummy, I know what Ken Potter said, but that was his opinion. And, more have been found since then and more will surely be found in the future. This is just my opinion. For your sakes, I hope I'm wrong and you get $12K....but don't get your hopes up and then be disappointed with 8K. It would be better to hope for less and get more and be surprised. JMHO.

Congrats on your find. I stopped reading this post due to all the bold lettering. I feel like I'm being yelled at.
