The first one was found in 2006 in Massachusett it sold for $2,900 and was not in good shape...don't know grade but I do know it graded PCGS Brown,
which means It might grade lower by NGC....since NGC is so strict.
the second one was in Connecticut in July 2009 when Ken Potter said it was the second one found.
Potter said the coin was in About Uncirculated shape (AU)....I was thinking AU 55 Red/Brown or Brown .
His coin is pictured on page 1 POST DATED 2-23-2011 6:58pm

Potter said coin was worth over $10,000 in AU Brown!

My coin was found February 2011 in Lowell, Massachusetts.
It is graded NGC MS 62 Red (Mint State) my first post has pictures of actual coin before grading.
So its highest one graded out of the 3 found speciments.
According to my father any coin that has 100 or less is considered rare.
There are 3 of these coins making it "Scarce" and Unique.
Who knows what this coin is worth....I'm awaiting to here from Ken Potter coin, error, & variety expert thinks.
Also trying to get info about other 2 coins and there conditions and to confirm prices sales and values.

Ok from what I now find out.....NGC has graded the other 2 coins
    AU 55 Brown & AU 55 Red/Brown

Our coin is the only mint state coin. MS 62 Red
It is not listed on the NGC site yet but will sooner or later.

I am new to all this, but after enlargeing your photo all i see is an obstruction between the am. Don't see how it could be graded as such.

hey yummy.....why do you "shout" in all of your posts. The bold is not necessary. :)

We know who Ken Potter is, by the way.

I can't wait to see a picture of your slab. Call Coin World, I'm sure they'll want to cover it. When the 2nd one was found, it made the cover.

Stupid New Englanders get all the goodies, so many WAM's and CAM's have been found up there. :(

Congrats, though, I'd price it at around $10k, not over $10k. People who are interested know there are surely going to be more to come... they probably used just one die on the Philly close AM's, so there's got to be at least a few thousand out there in existence...

Great find, I am happy for you and would love to see pictures of it slabbed. By the way it is not the only MS62 red coin. The coin you keep refering to as the second coin was graded MS62RD by PCGS at least that is what the slab I am looking at says.

a 92-d close am just sold for $4400 on teletrade 2 weeks ago i think 15-17 example have been graded , posted on another forum but some people have cracked open slabs
sent the same coin to diff grading services in hopes of a better grade so sometimes pop reports can be thrown off by that.... I think someone just found a 92-p a fw months ago and was sending it
in to be graded . some posted it on another forum

I cant see yours up close enough....
I found a 92 i thought was a " close am " first look but it was damage to the A and M making it appear close....The final word that it was not a close AM was the initials

Coppercoins.com I believe has both pics of the close and wide to compare the initials to

well you wont get a MS 66
highest one I see is the one I had graded. all the others were AU55 Brown or Brown/Red or lower
thanks for the nice comments. My father found the coin by buying pennies and searching !
Anyways my father has a 1986 Penny roll.....Unopened.
the rolls is worth $40 unopened...yet MS 68 listed as $1,200
he opened the roll and all the pennies look MS 66-70

problem is half the rolls are errors ! Does anyone know anything about 1986 P pennies
with the back mis-aligned ? half the pennies in the roll were misaligned on back of coin,.,,,,half the coins !
the monument on back is not aligned with the front and are off centered by 45 degrees.
    anyone seen this mis-alignment ?

    They make de-caf, y'know.:D

Can you post a pic of one of the '86's? If you change your scanner settings (custom setting) to the highest DPI and crop the pic, it should appear here nice and large.

    I'd like to see it!

unfortunatley scanner wont let me do that.
but from what I can tell ya....if you flip a penny over the monument will not be straight
    but off like 45 degrees.
instead of the bottom lining up at 6 o clock its turned at 7...8 or 8:30
half of the pennies are mis-aligned on back.
I could not find any info....but my father says this is not normal.
the pennies are all mint state....he bought the roll in 1986 and never opened it until now.
the value for a 1986 P Lincoln Cent is MS 68 is listed around $1,200 I think.
These pennies are all mint state with half of them having the mis-alignment of the monument on back.
The Pennies will surely grade MS 66 - MS 70 without a problem.
My father said these pennies are worth more since 1986 was a lower print run year.

1983-86 pennies are hard to find in high ms grades..
Most have porblems with the plating and strike.

Just look at one close, try and find the lines in the colums, the details in the bushes on the reverse... Most are a blurry mess.

To be above ms-65 no matter how nice the coin is , from what i read the coin has to have eye appeal, full strike with details a weak strike reverse wont let a untoched mint coin
    go above ms-65
    thats just what ive read

So all the pennies could be " nevr touched , no contact marks" if they have blurry reverses still might not go above ms-65

I posted earlier that a Philadelphia Close AM Error PCGS AU 55 Brown sold for $2,900 back in May 2009 .
That was a "Error" lol ....I was wrong...but wrong in my favor !

The coin was actually a Denver Close AM Variety graded PCGS AU 53 Brown
it was the lowest one graded and it sold for $2,900 !
Denver Close AM Errors are 5 times
more common than a Philadelphia Variety !
Also I found out that There are No Wide AM Errors for The Philadelphia & Denver minted coins.
    Just Close AM Varieties.

Ken Potter wrote in a story.....
2nd edition (published by Krause Publications in 2006) with a possible value of
$5,000 for a Low Graded About Uncirculated specimen
and $10,000 or higher for an high graded uncirculated specimen.

So again so everyone knows...there are no Wide AM Errors for 1992 pennies
just Close AM Errors. The Wide AM errors can be found on pennies from 1998-2002 (hundreds found)
Also Close AM Errors can be found on 1998-2002 pennies as well.

So therefore there are Close AM Varieties for 1992 Philadelphia & 1992 Denver coins
A Denver PCGS AU 53 Brown sold for $2,900 in May 2009 (it was also lowest graded coin graded too)
there are actually 8 Mint State Red graded coins for this variety...could possibly be higher than that too.
thats just NGC & PCGS Pop Report

A Proof 1998 & 1999 Wide AM can fetch you $1,000 in MS 67 or higher
$1,500 for a Close AM in this shape as well. there are lots of them around.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1992 Denver Close AM - 16 graded by NGC & PCGS (there are more out there graded by other companies)
So there are probably 40 of these that excist / lowest one graded sold for $2,900 2 years ago....AU 53 Brown.

1992 Philadelphia Close AM - 7 total graded (Scarce)
    AU 55 BROWN (2) <----- one sold for $4,830 Jan 5th 2010
    AU 55 RED/BROWN <------Valued at $6,000 - $7,500
    AU 58 BROWN (3) <------Valued at $10,000+

NGC MS 62 RED (My Coin) Value $ ??????

Not only do I have the only Red graded coin its also the only Mint State one in excistence. Cool .

I do plan on selling it....anyone have any suggestions on which would be the
best way of selling this coin, and anyone have an opinon of the value or what you think it would sell for ?

Yummy why don't you keep it simple, you know KISS? All years before 1993 bussiness cents should normally have A and M's that don't touch. Exception=1992.
All years 1993 to date bussiness normally have A and M's that touch. Exceptions = 98, 99, 2000.
There are no such varieties as a 1992 wide A M or 1998 thru 2000 as close AM for bussiness cents.-------------- zeke

I agree with Coppertop5150. Call Heritage Auctions : Bob Marino 1-800-872-6467, extension 1374. Or BobMarino@HA.com
    There good people.

I want to see scans or photos of your 1992 Close AM, NGC MS-62. A pic is worth a thousand words, ah, eh
ten thousand of yours. And yes it does matter to us if they " suck". " Shape Up or Ship Out " as the saying goes.

I don't want to go through the whole thread again.

Did you already have this graded? And if you did, was it slabbed as 1992 Philadelphia Lincoln Cent -Close AM ?

Also, can you post a pic of the slabbed coin?

Most of the members here know Ken Potter and have dealt with him in the past many times.

Everyone here hopes for the best for you but all you are doing is hyping your "find" by repeating how rare this is.
We know how rare this coin is, but unless you provide decent pics, that's all it is..... hype.

Borrow a camera and get some decent close-up shots to show us.

Posting in colors and underlining means nothing with out pictures.
