The doubling was caused by the same plating issues. Notice that it is to the left of LIBERTY and to the right of the date. That is caused by metal movement during the strike. That movement caused the copper plating to release from the zink core.
It is a die deterioration issue. Considered worthless. Some people try to sell them on ebay as a doubled die which is totally untrue. And it's a wide AM. Not a close AM

This knowledge can get really complex to write out. in short, the Metal Die is getting worn down from the continuous metal (die) to metal (planchet) strikes. Thus it starts wearing in areas - this wear is called die deterioration. This is then causing issues with the completeness and accuracy of the stamped image in comparison to a pristine example.
