    There are thousands of counterstamp coins out there. All done deliberately after it left the Mint.

    Thousands?? I know of one person alone who has put almost a quarter of a million counterstamped coins into circulation. But I suppose that counts as "thousands". :D

    We would never know unless you actually saw the person who did it. Why would you think a church did the counterstamp?

    Geez guys! Spending a lot of time on a non-counterstamped coin. Call it what you want but it has no value and would essentially be impossible to document. In my decades of collecting counterstamps I've only seen one or two "initials only" issues that were attributed...by historical references.
