Coins that stick to a magnet are not magnetic.. They are Ferromagnetic meaning it is attracted to a magnet. Your Cent was probably plated with a ferromagnetic coating. Please show us the slab from ANACS or your coin does not exist.
You're right about the magnetic part it doesn't stick like if it was steal it sticks very gently like if it was coated
All I know is that there is nothing in the process of the making of Copper Plated Zinc planchets that would make them Ferromagnetic. It must be some kind of light post mint plating used to make it ferromagnetic. You also should know that the TPG's such as ANACS can't always fully determine what the issue is on every single coin sent to them. If they don't know then it will get a Details grade. They have also made mistakes in the attribution of so called Mint Errors when they are not. In other words TPG's are not always 100% correct.
I agree but i still don't know what to do about this, it wieghed 2.3 grams and its Ferromagnetic there's something here that were missing.
Send it to another company. Tell them that it's ferromagnetic. They will then do a slew of tests on it to determine why. If they can't answer your question then you will be out a lot of money. It will receive a Details grade again.
Oh one more thing does anyone have a theory about this 1990-D penny that weighs 2.3 grams and is ferromagnetic?
I told you.. Probably plated post mint with a ferromagnetic material. Definitely not a Cent struck on a Steel Planchet.
If you say not worth wasting my money im gonna take your advice but what do you think about the wieght 2.3 grams ?
A normal Copper plated zinc cent weighs 2.5 grams but it could have a plus or minus in weight so 2.3 grams is within tolerance.
It would be the same size, width and thickness as a dime planchet. And as stated not ferromagnetic. You're overthinking now.
Here is an article about magnetic attraction. Collectors’ Clearinghouse: Errors & Varieties: Weak attraction to magnet often spells trouble for collectors (coinworld.com)
Hello, can someone get me out , I found a coin of 1 cent of 1990 without mint mark and it is magnetic, it is Silver color, it has some value
Hi @KaB1972. I recommend that you start a new thread and post photos for the members to assess. This will get you some answers. Be sure to give your thread a decent, descriptive title.
