199? Lincoln Cent missing letters, numbers

    Hello All,

I am wondering if someone can tell me what is up with this 1994 penny? It is as if much of the lettering and numbering has been "rubbed off".

For instance there is no "LI" in LIBERTY, and I think it is 1995, but it may be 1993 or other.

On the reverse it is missing "STATES OF", among other things.

The weird thing is that the rims on this coin seem fine, so it is not like the whole coin was rubbed against something, just certain parts are missing for some reason.

I did see one Youtube video of someone with a similar coin while researching, but I don't know if it is the same issue.

    Any info is appreciated!

Looks like it could be a weak strike. The striations on the reverse weak spots seem to go in the same directions. NE to SW.

    No
    I disagree

The Cent was struck with an overused Die.
Both sides are just Struck Through

Just a grease-filled die. I have several dozen cents that look just like yours.

Here are a few of mine. I keep them in a separate container just for fun.
