Went to the flea market this afternoon and a guy had a pile of coins and I started picking through them...looks like Mexican pesos and I know the older ones have been devalued and so I ask how much and he says $1 for the lot. Excuse the poor picture but here are the 168 new pesos with a value of about $13.84 US...

The ones in the upper left are old devalued pesos 2275 so about .10. Then in the upper center 2 Columbia coins, 1 Honduras coin, and 4 Guatemalan coins. Finally 1 unidentified coin and 3 tokens. Not a bad haul. I know maybe should post them in the World Coins but nothing seems to stand out as numismatically interesting just common coins...Now if I can only find somewhere to exchange them into dollars...:D

Very nice find! Last time I was in Mexico, the 10 peso coins were exchangeable to around a dollar. And, while I was there, I didn't see any 0.2 peso, or 0.1 peso. The only 0.1 peso I got here in the US in change as a dime.

Also, seems like 168 peso is just under $9 now.

My mistake 168 peso coins with face value of 263 pesos...about $13.64 at 19.27 to the dollar...

I ended up with 9 $10, 10 of the $5, 17 of the $2, 62 if the $1, 46 of the 50 centavos, 16 of the 20 centavos and 8 of the 10 centavos. The latter are worth 1/2 US cent each. Yes I live less than 60 miles from the border but have not been to Mexico in since I was a student at the U of A 25 years ago...

Try the flea market...I hear you might be able to get a dollar for them! :wacky:

Very nice haul, regardless. I wish I could come across a lot like that for that cheap. We don't even have flea markets around these parts...only farms and open fields...and sheep...lots of sheep...

They don't exchange coins at the currency exchange. Only paper currency and they have to be current issue for all countries.

    Cool find though.

There is a site where you can mail your coins and get about 30% return.
But as Paddy says you can't just go into a currency exchange/ airport/ where ever
and change coins. Only currency. So unless you are going to Mexico....
I've found a number of valuable Euro coins, high peso coins and English pound coins, with no way to cash them in. (As well as Canadian coins, but GF's nephew lives there, so I will dump them on him.)

Missed this one a 5 centavos coin worth a quarter of 1 US cent! How can they afford to even mint these little buggers?:)

I think the only denominations I am missing are the 20 and 50 peso coins, unless they make a 1 centavo coin which would be insane.
