I don't want to "see" things so, I will just say raised areas in between the forehead and Liberty. Are these areas just gouges?
After all your photos I'm going to ask if you can do a few of the reverse. If I look at it long enough it appears to be an R in there, which might mean a die clash from the reverse (plu"R"ibus). Or could just be late stage die deterioration.
I thought Clash also.. but the only part of the Reverse that would Clash in front of his forehead would be the letters Ep.. The r is to far in to be clashed
I see a pig walking down FDR's brow (next to last photo). I also see the striations of die deterioration. Chris
Looks like a broken/gouged die missing a flake of metal,unfortunately they probably ran off quite a few of them before the die was changed out.They really crank up the output on these presses at times.....
I dont have my coin with me now. I have I bekieve an 89' with a counter clash. I will try to post a pic if I can find it. It shows most of the reverse.
