  1. The mint mark seems a little off lol and this penny looks the it has lines going vertical right to left kind of like a woody? IMG_20200210_005740.jpg

    Greg Bayes Where's the loo?

I am not sure that I am reading the posting correctly...a woody?

It looks like split plate doubling on the mint mark. This coin was struck by a worn die and displays DDD, die deterioration doubling. The lines are either die scratches or roller marks from the planchet stock production.

Roller marks? these look like linear plating blisters to me.

Very well could be. I just thought parallel alignment though the date, under IGWT, and under liberty was awfully uniform. Especially from a worn die strike. I hate stinkn’ Zincolns!:banghead:

Please remember that a Woody is from an improper metal mixture. It will have noticeably different colored streaks. This coin is made of zinc so no woodies. Just plating blisters and that is common in Zinc Cents.

Just like your 1986D, split plating at the mint mark and the lines are also all a plating issue.
